As the daylight hours begin to wane, we shift gears on the farm. But we can't slow down yet! This is the harvest time and we need to get busy picking and drying herbs for holiday gift-giving season. The Tulsi patch is bigger than ever, and because we have acclimated our seed over many years (more on that later!), we are sure to be harvesting Tulsi for a few more months. Calendula is brightly shining along with violets to ring in the darker months of the year and bring some healing energy from the ground to us humans. Even mama nettle has come back for a third round of growth after being lovingly tended through its less-than-favorite summer season.
BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!
Spilanthes is a unique herb native to Brazil which many people have used for tooth and mouth issues. It has the amazing ability to create more saliva in the mouth while producing a tingly sensation with a rush of energy.
Last year we sampled some of these bright and sunny blooms at the Arcata Farmers' Market, and people have been begging for more ever since. We only have a limited amount, but if you can't live without spilanthes let us know and we'll hook you up. With any order, we'll throw in a bloom to try, just let us know!
How do you ring in the Fall season? There's still time to capture that expansive summer energy to be tapped in the darker times. Preserving the sweet fruits through jams or using syrups, infusing oils or vinegar with potent herbs, and all things pepper related (canning, drying, grinding) are on our radar. We'll show you how! Look for our vlog entries, coming soon. First up will be a tutorial on using salt scrubs, then we'll delve into some preservation techniques! Thanks for stopping by. Lets grow together!
